Search Engine Optimisation is very important in getting your site as visible as possible and ranked highly in the search engines. Link exchanging can play an important role here as search engines will rank highly for good quality back links. Again, it is important to only link to relevant websites.

Any link can get traffic back to your website and there are many ways to get some links out there.

You can write articles about your niche and submit them to article directories. There are literally hundreds of these sites to choose from. A word of warning here, only submit unique content or your articles will just not be accepted. Write good quality content, add a link back to your site at the bottom and submit it to an article directory.

You can comment on blogs that are in your niche and include links back to your site.

Participate in forums, there are loads to choose from. Don't just go in and post a comment with your link on it, go in and get involved in the discussions. Don't just visit a forum and bombard it with your links, this will just mark you out as a spammer and you will be banned. Be sensible with it and you will generate some good traffic.

You may find a topic where your product or service can be a solution for somebody.

Create a signature in your email program and include links for your websites and blogs. If you have a list, email to your subscribers regularly but again, don't bombard them with information. Be selective and relevant. This will generate a steady flow of targeted traffic.

Use social bookmarking on sites like Digg, StumbleUpon and twitter. If you use WordPress to administer your site use a plugin like "sociable". This will allow visitors to bookmark your content there and then to twitter, Facebook etc. Always bear in mind that link exchanging is not a one time fix, it needs to be repeated over and over. Keep your content fresh and update regularly and you will keep a steady flow of targeted traffic flowing to your website.
