The process of launching an effective link building campaign is not as germane as the time required to make it both effective and efficient. There are many options regarding back linking and what is most effective and what is most efficient in achieving top ranking among the major search engines. As an established SEO Company having over a decade of experience, we have truly seen it all. We have also seen many SEO Companies fall by the wayside unable to adapt and adjust to an ever-changing Internet Marketing environment.

As a result of these experiences, and in light of recent changes in the Search Engine Optimization field, we felt it would be a good time to re-visit time proven methods that are worth their weight in gold when it comes to building back links. We will cover more innovative and creative link building trends affecting the SEO field in another article very soon. For now, this reference list will assist those uncertain of how to initiate and pursue a link building campaign in the current Internet Marketing environment.

1. Write and Publish Articles: Although the Panda/Farmer Google algorithm update has brought a great deal of attention to the negative effects of article publication, the process still plays a very important role in a back linking campaign when performed properly. Article submission is one of the truly original and acceptable practices for generating high quality back links and traffic to any Internet Property. And while it has come under a great deal of fire recently, content drives the search engines, and fresh, original, relevant content is exactly what the search engines want and need to supply an ever growing and seemingly insatiable appetite for new information on the Internet

At your fingertips information is the name of the game. Article syndication is thereby still a valid and respected way to create back links from high PR web sites. Over the last few years it has definitely changed and it will continue to mature. Ultimately, people want and need information on a variety of highly complex topics. The quickest way to supply this information is to generate relevant subject matter on any given topic and syndicate that research via an article publication site. The rules of article syndication have definitely changed (in my opinion for the better) but there is certainly no question the overall advantages to the author still remain the same.

2. Outbound Links to Other Relevant Internet Properties: One aspect of SEO that many overlook is the value of an outbound link. Outbound links, without question, should be looked upon as the most valuable commodity of any Internet Property. Outbound links should be weighed and measured with a great deal of scrutiny. Nevertheless, if your web site lacks any outbound links within the content there is a problem. From the psychology of a search engine, an outbound link serves as a footnote to substantiate the research you have provided for your content (similar to an author footnote in a thesis or a book). Outbound links provide authority to your content, lend credibility to your original independent research, and serve as a reference for all the work done in the past to support your contentions and conclusions.

3. Social Media Profiles: As one of the most significant trends in recent Internet Marketing Social Media Profiles are part of a 'must have' Internet Marketing' arsenal. Create and manage your social media profiles on a weekly if not daily basis.

4. Blog Comments: Blog comments, although they do not maintain the link juice they once had, are still a very good way to get quality links back to your site. Blog comments from .org and .gov sites can provide outstanding link quality if you can get them.

5. Guest Blogging: Guest blogging is a really good way to get two or three quality back links as well as deep links to your site. The key to guest blogging is to provide high quality original and germane content to the site owner.

6. Directory Submission: Directory submission, once again, has lost a great deal of link juice over the course of the last few years. Despite this it is still an important and valid way to get quality back links to your web site. Submit your site to as many directories as you possibly can. Just make sure that the directories are quality directories and they are industry related to your market.

7. Link Baiting: Link baiting is an acceptable and highly effective way to get back links for your site. Matt Cutts discussed the value of link baiting in a recent video he released. Link baiting is time consuming but well worth the effort considering you can get hundreds or thousands of quality back links to your site utilizing this method.

A good example of link bait would be to produce a series of branded web design templates that you allow users to download for free. As they download the templates and create web sites they are providing a back link to your site through the brand or link embedded within the source code of the template.

8. Link Wheels: Link wheels are initially time consuming to create but can definitely work wonders for any link building campaign. Link wheels are comprised of a series of Web 2.0 web sites that you create with a continuous series of links with all links eventually pointing back to the most significant or target Internet Property. There are a number of informative videos which outline link wheel creation available on YouTube, simply search the subject.

9. Forum Signature Posts: Forums are valuable for link building for a couple of really good reasons. First active involvement in multiple industry related forums provide an opportunity to build valuable industry connections for yourself and your web site. As these relations grow, your credibility and authority within the Internet community will grow accordingly. This provides you with a great deal of link building opportunities with a similar minded and industry specific audience. Secondly, each forum comment will give you a new back link to your Internet Property.

10. Press Releases: Press releases provide a great opportunity to generate exposure for your web site as well serving as an awesome branding tool. Most press releases do not allow links in the body of the release but there is almost always a way to get a back link somewhere in the press release submission syndication process. Press releases do not require a great deal of time because unlike article submission, press releases should be distributed no more than ten times a year.

11. Video Marketing: Video Marketing is quickly gaining momentum in the development of back linking campaigns. Video Marketing results can quickly show up on page one of the major search engines generating enormous volumes of traffic as well an extraordinary number of back links for your Internet Property. YouTube is a great place to start as Google tends to give it preference over other platforms at this time.

12. Social Bookmarking: A never ending process with little link juice, social bookmarking is still an important element to link building. The key to effective social bookmarking is selecting relevant and highly targeted Tags. Social bookmarking is by its nature time consuming but after the initial accounts are set up on the various social sites the process becomes increasingly more efficient and productive. Additionally, there are a number of free social bookmarking tools available to semi-automate the process.

13. One Way Inbound Linking: By far the most effective method of link building One Way Inbound Linking is very labor intensive, time consuming, and requires a great deal of perseverance. One ways links are the most natural and therefore the most valued by the search engines. The way you get one way links is by engaging the Internet community and developing a relationship that draws or encourages other web sites to want to link to you. One way linking is most effective from thematically relevant web sites within your industry. A lot of emails and perhaps a great deal of begging can't hurt this link building process either.

14. Squidoo Lens: Creating a Squidoo lens is a good way to get links as well as to introduce you and your expertise to the Internet. A Squidoo lens can provide back links and help develop valuable industry specific relationships. Plus, Squidoo actually pays you for your efforts. Additionally, you can offer your services to others by creating Squidoo lenses for them and inserting a link back to your primary Internet Property.

As a professional SEO Company the practice of building high quality back links has been a full time job for us for over a decade. Finding creative ways to build relevant quality back links is very labor intensive and requires a multitude of skills and relies heavily on the relationships that are built within an industry niche and the Internet community overall. As the Internet continues to evolve and change, so do the necessary skills requisite to implement effective Internet Marketing strategy.
